Retirement Calculator Update!

Hello friends,

The Portfolio Withdrawal Calculator, for Brazil has been updated with a new feature and some fixes. Special thanks to “Investidor Moderado” who posted a comment earlier here which inspired the new feature. While implementing the suggestion, I found some bugs and fixed those too. I also added some notes on the page to give users details as to how the calculations are performed.

Release notes:

  • Added a feature inspired by “Investidor Moderado”, who pointed out in the years following the Real Plan interest rates were much higher than they are now. The new feature allows the use to select a range of years to use. You can use this to target specific ranges of Brazil’s economic history following the Real Plan, or just exclude the earlier years. Use the control below to affect the years used.
  • A bug was fixed which caused groups of years to blead from one simulation to another. For instance if you retirement was 30 years, and you had a group size of 7 years (which would keep7 years of economic data together, before the next random block was used), there should be 4 groups of 7, which brings up to 28 years, then 2 years would be used form the last group to get us to 30. What was happening is the remaining 5 years of that group, would end up being the first 5 years of the following simulation. That has been fixed.

Please keep the feedback coming in the comments. My friend AA40 has made several suggestions that I’m behind on, so keep checking in for new features being added.
